Escape Room | Commandery Quest

Get your friends together and challenge yourselves to complete an escape room game in one of Worcester’s most historic buildings…

Here’s the story…

Once the Royalist headquarters during the English Civil War, The Commandery is rumoured to be where an important object was hidden on the eve of the Battle of Worcester…

Now the museum curators need to find the artefact before infamous thief Arty Snitch, who is determined to find the treasure for himself.

Recently, Arty has struck at some of the most high-profile museums and galleries across Europe and we believe he’s now after the famous Great Seal of King Charles II, said to have been hidden right here in 1651.

Climb up to the museum attic with your team to solve challenges from different periods of history and complete the escape room game.

How many people can be in a team?

A team should be between 2 and 8 players. The prices are based on a sliding scale, so the more players you bring the lower the price is per player.

I’m not sure how many people will be coming – how many should I book for?

Please book the minimum number of confirmed players through the Arts Tickets booking system if you are unsure of your team size. Extra players can be added prior to your booking by calling The Commandery directly and paying over the phone, or coming into The Commandery shop during open hours.

Is the Escape Room suitable for children?

Our Escape Room puzzles have been designed to be completed by teams of adults and/or older children. All players must be aged 12 and over.

Under 18s must be accompanied by at least one paying adult. If this rule is not adhered to you will not be allowed to play the game and no refund will be given.

Ticket prices are the same regardless of age.

Can I cancel my booking?

We are unable to offer a refund once your booking has been confirmed. It may be possible to reschedule your booking for a £10 admin fee, although this is not guaranteed.

Can I bring extra players?

Additional players can be added, up to the maximum team size. Ideally this would be done in advance of the booked time by visiting The Commandery or calling us on 01905 361821 or 07749436106 to add players and to arrange payment.

What happens if some of our group can’t make it?

While we understand plans can change, we are unable to offer a refund for players who can’t make it.

Can we park onsite for the Escape Room?

We are currently only able to offer parking to Blue Badge holders (this parking needs to be pre-booked so please contact us in advance on 01905 361821 or 07749436106 if you will require a blue badge space).

There are many car parks in Worcester within walking distance of The Commandery. The two nearest are:

  • Commandery Road, Worcester, WR1 2HY
  • King Street, 3 King Street, Worcester, WR1 2NX

The Commandery is also a 20-minute walk from Foregate Street Train Station and a 15-minute walk from Shrub Hill Train Station.

What do we do when we arrive?

Please arrive at least 5 minutes before your booked time. If The Commandery is open please let the staff in the shop know that you have arrived. If The Commandery is closed when you arrive please wait outside the main gate on Sidbury for your Games Master to let you in.

What happens if I am late?

If you are just a few minutes late we will try and complete your game as normal but your time in the Escape Room may have to be cut short to allow us to keep to schedule. If you are more than 15 minutes late you will be considered a cancelled booking and no refund will be given.

What should I wear in / bring to the Escape Room?

The Escape Room is in the attics of a Grade I listed building that is over 500 years old. This means it can be quite warm in the summer and chilly in the winter, so layers of clothing are advised. A coat rack and bag store is available just next to the room. Sensible footwear is advised as the floors are uneven and you will need to climb 33 steps to get to the room.

Are there toilets we can use?

Yes, there are toilets that can be used before or after your game.

How long will the Escape Room game last?

You will have up to 1 hour to complete the game. You will also need to allow time for a briefing before the game starts and for a debrief and photos afterwards.  Please plan to be with us for up to 90 minutes in total.

Is the game safe?

Yes, the Escape Room and puzzles are safe to use, but remember you will be in a historic building so there will be uneven floors and low ceilings and beams, so please take care.

Am I actually locked in?

No, the room will not be locked and you can ask to exit the room at any time should you feel you need to.

Will I be scared?

The game is designed to be fun and mentally challenging, not physically challenging or scary. The game is closely monitored by our Games Master who you can communicate with throughout.

Will there be anyone else in the room?

The room will be exclusively booked for you and your team.

Can we take pictures?

Photos can be taken before and after the game, however we don’t permit phones to be taken inside the room and so players are asked to leave their phones and other devices in a secure box just outside the room.

Do I need to know about history or about The Commandery?

No, the puzzles are designed to be solved by logic and skill, you do not need any prior knowledge of The Commandery or of any periods of history to be able to complete the game.

“The escape room is excellent, quite challenging but really enjoyed our experience. We only just beat Mr Snitch to Charles II’s seal, so it is still there for you to protect if he tries to steal it again!” – David on Google.

“Good escape room, the right level of challenge without being impossible. pleasingly logical. Lovely to have it housed in a historic building and be tied in to the building’s history. Highly recommended.” – William on Facebook.

“Great fun and a good mix of puzzles – some visual, some logical etc. Enjoyed by both adults and kids.” – Joanna on Facebook.

“We had a great time as a family at the Commandery Quest escape room. The whole experience was fantastic; the games master explained everything well, the puzzles etc were tricky without being impossible and the theme fit really well in the setting of the historic building. Although not necessarily advertised as suitable for kids, our boys loved getting involved and working as a family to solve the clues and defeat Arty Snitch! I’d definitely recommend as a great experience 😀” – David on Facebook.

Good luck… and have fun!
